What is a domain name?
A domain name (more correctly referred to as a "registered domain names") is the unique name used to identify a particular website. It is either typed directly into a browser, or accessed via hyperlinks or related keywords inputted into a search engine.
How do I register a domain name?
Domain names are registered through a domain name registrar; a company certified to register domain names on the internet by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). It is possible to register a domain with a registrar in a different country to the one in which you reside. A very reputable UK-based registrar, which offers unsurpassed support and a first-rate service, is 123-reg.co.uk. This is a great place to register domains regardless of your country of residence and offers extremely easy transfer if you are to sell your domain names.
How can this make me money? The domain name business can be a very profitable one- but only if you know what to look for when registering a domain. The idea is that you register a domain which is considered "desirable" by other parties. Because you own the domain and have "reserved it", so to speak, another user is only able to acquire this domain by purchasing it directly from you. Depending on the quality of the domain, you can turn a £10 domain name registration into hundreds, thousands or even millions of pounds! To learn how to register desirable domains which will make you a profit, please view my article entitled "what makes a good domain name?". Some websites will charge you absurd prices for such information, but I'm giving it to you for free :).
